Smart City project officials trained 15 transport employees on how to prepare e-challans on traffic violation cases based on CCTV footage. Police Commissioner Sandeep Karnik, Deputy Commissioner (Crime) Kiran Kumar Chavan and Deputy Commissioner (Transport and Headquarters) Kirtika C. M. visited the police control room and reviewed the training process.
In the last five years, CCTV cameras have been installed across the city through Nashik Municipal Corporation Smart City Development Corporation Ltd. (NMSCDCL). At least 1,132 cameras have been installed at major traffic intersections in the city, including 282 Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras and 141 Red Light Violation Detection (RLVD) cameras. All the cameras are linked to the police control room
These cameras will record traffic violations and send the information to the control room. There, trained personnel will verify the violations and issue e-challans. The system is likely to be fully operational from February 20, the official said.
The smart city administration has set up 13 variable message display (VMD) boards across the city to create awareness about traffic rules. Signal violation is a serious problem in the city, with many drivers crossing the stop line or breaking the signal in the absence of the police. Senior officials have appealed to drivers to follow traffic rules to avoid fines.
